Mud Mats Built for Tough Ground Conditions

Equinox Mud Grids are purpose-built for horse facilities dealing with muddy paddocks, standing water, or erosion-prone zones.

These high-density plastic mud control grids interlock securely to create safe, dry, and navigable terrain for horses and pedestrians.

They can be installed in horse facility walkways, paddock entrances, or driveways to improve footing, support horse barn traffic, and reduce long-term repair costs.

Engineered by equine professionals, our mud grid systems:

  • Are DIY-friendly to install
  • Withstand heavy vehicle traffic
  • Combine smart design with rugged performance for everyday use

Sustainable & Locally Made Horse Mud Mats

All Equinox Mud Grids are made in the USA, at our production facility in Doral, Florida. They are part of the circular economy, made from locally sourced 100% recycled and recyclable raw materials.

Mud Control Grids for Versatile Applications

Our mud control mats don't just improve footing—they're also designed to support equine welfare and outdoor living needs.

In addition to stabilizing muddy areas, their reversible design makes them suitable for a wide range of uses, including:

  • Creating horse paradise paddocks or track systems
  • Building parking areas or storage spaces
  • Stabilizing paths, access points, or horse paddock entrances
  • Forming a reliable base for horse arenas, lunge rings, walkers, or gallop tracks

Flexible Installation Options

Equinox mud mats can be installed flat-side up or upside down filled with sand or gravel.

The installation method depends on how the panels will be used and the nature of the soil. Choosing the right configuration ensures stability and durability.

To find out more about our installation recommendations, please consult our Mud Control Grid Installation Guide .

Long-Lasting Durability

Designed for long-term use, Equinox Mud Grids are robust and easy to maintain.

If installed correctly, with proper maintenance, and under “normal” living/use conditions, our products have an estimated lifespan of 15 to 20 years.

Can My Equinox for Horses Mud Mats Be Laid Directly on the Ground?

Yes, our horse mud mats can be laid on stabilized ground, i.e. ground that is flat and load-bearing. On loose ground, we strongly recommend preparing the surface to be stabilized beforehand. This will greatly improve the quality and durability of your mud mat installation.

Do not lay your horse mud mats on soft ground when the temperature is below 40°F, as the tiles will not anchor properly.

You can consult our installation advice by downloading our Mud Control Grid Installation Guide.

What Uses Are Equinox for Horses Mud Control Mats Designed For?

The mud control mats’ reversibility means they can be used in a wide variety of ways to stabilize muddy areas and high-traffic zones for horses, pedestrians, and vehicles. Typical applications include:

  • • Winter paddocks and grasslands: stabilize eroded ground
  • • Shower racks and watering areas: provide non-slip footing
  • • Access roads and entrances: prevent rutting and maintain paths
  • • Car parks and storage areas: protect surfaces from heavy traffic
  • • Horse track systems and paddock paradise: stabilize evolution areas
  • • Riding arenas, walkers, and round pens: create a stable sublayer for training or competition

Do I Need to Prepare My Horse Facility’s Ground Before Laying the Mud Control Mats?

Yes, preparing your horse facility’s ground before installing mud control mats is strongly recommended! A smooth, level, and load-bearing surface will greatly enhance the quality and durability of your installation.

On a flat, even surface, laying your tiles will be easier and the quality of your installation will be enhanced.

You can consult our installation advice by downloading our Mud Control Grid Installation Guide.

Are Equinox for Horses Mud Management Slabs Slippery?

The spikes on the top of our mud management mats for horses are designed to slow down the movement of the hoof.

As the surface is rigid, slipperiness cannot be ruled out, especially for shod horses. However, as horses live outdoors, there is always a risk of slipping on grass or any other surface.

To reduce this risk, we recommend that you cover your mud management tiles with sand after laying them.

Can Equinox Mud Grids Be Laid on a Slope?

Laying our mud control grids on a slight slope is not a problem; on the contrary, it allows surface run-off. Equinox mud grids are designed to be laid on any type of ground, which we advise you to prepare before laying the slabs.

If the area to be stabilized has a regular slope, the weight of our mud control mats, combined with their effective fixing and anti-lift systems, ensures they remain secure and functional. This, of course, depends on the degree of the slope.
