Can EQUINOX FOR HORSES stabilization mats be laid directly on the ground ?
Generally speaking, yes. The use of a geo-textile or drainage material can bring added value to your installation, but they are designed to perform well even with minimal prep.

Do I need to prepare my floor before installing the stabilization grids ?
Thanks to their increased rigidity and strength, new-generation EQUINOX FOR HORSES stabilization mats can be installed with minimal ground preparation. However, on a flat, even surface, the installation of your grids will be easier, and the flatness of your platform will be more durable.

Do I need to remove the surface of my ground before laying my EQUINOX FOR HORSES grids ?
You can, particularly in the case of heavily clay-based soil, but you will need to bring in a filler material such as gravel or compacted sand to restore the level of the finished floor. Alternatively, we advise opting for an overhanging installation, which involves adding a stabilizing material before laying the grids. This preserves the natural permeability of the soil, allows water to drain away by gravity, and saves you earthwork costs.

Are EQUINOX FOR HORSES anti-mud mats slippery ?
The spikes on the top of our mats are designed to slow down the movement of the hoof. Because the surface rigidity adapts to the temperature, slipperiness cannot be entirely ruled out, especially for shod horses. However, as equines live outdoors, there is always a risk of slipping on grass or any other natural surface. To reduce this risk, we highly recommend covering your grids with sand after laying them. For shod horses, we advise against laying the grids flat side up; instead, lay your grids upside down so the honeycombs are exposed, and fill them with sand.

Can EQUINOX FOR HORSES stabilization grids be laid on a slope ?
Yes. On a slope, it's best to lay the grids with the honeycomb side up and filled with sand. A slight slope is not a problem; however, it aids in surface runoff. EQUINOX FOR HORSES stabilization grids are designed to be laid regardless of the topography of the soil and will seamlessly follow its deformations. Due to the weight of our stabilization grids, the efficiency of their fastening system, and their anti-lift mechanism, they remain highly effective depending on the degree of the slope.

Already using our larger format (EQUINOX MUD GRID) and wondering if they are compatible?
